About

There’s a German idiom – “nicht schön aber selten” (not pretty, but rare). It’s mainly used sarcastically and to describe things that aren’t exactly beautiful, but at least, well, they are. The idiom only exists in the negation (“not beautiful, but…”) and I wanted to believe that the opposite could also be true. That’s the reason why this page exists: Wunderschön aber selten liberally translates to incredibly beautiful, but rare. This is a place where I’ve been gathering what’s beautiful, but rare, now for over 15 years.
